I'm starting to build some solid shooter decks (Sioux and Collegium), but I run into the 'turtle syndrome' where the other outfit sticks their primo dude at home and pumps 'em up to +8 or ridiculous and comes out (w/ shotgun yet) to wreak havoc.
Any good summaries of "flush 'em out" cards/tactics appreciated. I know of some events such as "Home is Where Nothin Happens" (dudes at home lose influence), "It was a Mountain Lion" (have low value dudes and high value pull decks), Knicknevin, etc.
But I don't like stacking my decks w/events that are by definition only useful in lowball-would prefer action cards or card effect/modifiers-any tips/hints/strategies? |

I used a lot of value killer cards in a deck to break turtles. Pox Walker and several others that I can't remember the names of... it's been a while. Then arm your guys with shotguns and put an Ezzie out. Soon they'll come running out of the home just so they can stand a chance. _________________ www.trulyrural.com my own little hole on the web. |

Against Turtling:
Stoker vs knickevin is my favorite. But usually turtlers will flood cp rather than building a dude for shooting. Dont see the point in a shooter relying on to much turtling, since that allows u to flood cp or anything. If u play a shooter use such cards like stoker vs knickevin kdnapiing or whatever u like, and The Lode, and A Straight flush/DMH draw. Dust Tornado once should be a staple in ure shooter as well.
Pox Walker:
I love Pox Walker with mark of men and batholemew alot. But Its to inconsistent unforunatly. Since u cant start with him, and multiple copies of him must be used with born under strange star and shallow grave and so, it relies on ure draw. Means u are not made for shooting, and relying to much on drawing. Prolly an unearthly bacon, to fetch em from discard pile, would increase chances.
Seems u gotta use with texas rangers. Can start with bartholomew and bob le veux, pack in chrono accelerator 3-4 walkers 2-3 unearthly bacons. 1 shallow grave. A strong dude at a tree would protect ure pox walker. Good stiff drink and mark of men. 1 born udner strange star. But I still guess it cant be to strong. |

A good way to get Poxies in multiple without having to do Strange Star tricks is a Collegium deck with a Bioengineering - this makes Shallow Grave even more powerful, strangely enough, because it's easy to use other "multiple" dudes, and it provides the option to hand those Poxies Soul Blast Cannons for the inevitable callout(that "five over" can be scarily easy to make once you've chopped three off 'em, especially in a pull-angled deck), plus easy access to Chronomanipulators and Pocket Watches - mix in a Mark Of Man, and you can pick folks apart with ease. Do it in Wasatch, and you can guarantee the necessary Goods draws; mix you in a few Hired Guns or a Huckster with a Beacon, and you can snag the Poxies from discard. Put in one Investment Machine and make A Few Custom Modificiations, and you can churn out the GR at the same time.
Other good callout cards are the oft-recommended Stoker Vs. Knicknevin; you can also use "Don't Look" to callout folks at Home from the Town Square. You can also use Any One of Ya! - if they don't send someone to fight, instant VP for you. If your Sioux Home is Spirit Warriors, Brawl is one of the most vilified combos in the game. If you're using Warrants or the like, Clean Up The Town can hurt them a lot - if the target refuses the callout, their influence drops to 0 - PERMANENTLY, and unalterably. If they're already 0, they die. Dead Man's Hand is a good one - unrefusable, guaranteed to be even or advantage-you, guaranteed to be one-on-one. Downside is you're Wanted afterward. Throw Down can work, too - if their value is under yours, no refusal. |

| I just use my COA or Black Circle Puppet deck to stomp turtlers. |

I like to Drunk Monkey Shi Kuan, it's a nice turlte deterrent and relatively easy to put together. Should have it by turn 1. _________________ Cheers,

Isn't that what "Massacre At High Noon" is for? Since you're running a shooting deck anyway.
For that specific example though, I'd more look at countering the 1 dude. Whether it's something like Bad Tequila, lost in the badlands, etc. Or simply making sure your shootout hand is better, I don't care if their lead shooter is a 20 Stud if I have a Deadmans.
If the Shotgun is a concern ("w/" is that without? Or just with?) No Funny Stuff is a solid card all round, as are things like deal specifically with weapons like Freddy Fast Hands.
Personally, I've huge bias towards the card, but Hangin' Judge Gabriel can basically trade himself for 1 dude, and when that 1 dude has 5 gear cards, and some spells, and whatever... But that 1 dude has to be wanted.
I remember a game where Experience Peevee was loaded with stuff, and I knew in a straight shootout I'd lose. So I moved Gabriel to the Town Centre, it's at that point Matt moved Peevee to the Town Centre and called Gabriel out "Between the Cracks" then pretty much won me the game. |
