Ever since I got a Hangin' Judge, i've had him in a deck, and more often than not I start with him. I've also stuck with the Original Law Dog home since I started with it.
Warrants are bad cards in my opinion, and the Judge opens up the chances of not having to use them. Add in Flight of Angels and I don't bother running any Warrants. With the GbA, and The Evidence, it's possible to get their entire starting line up wanted on the first turn.
After that, the Judge does his thing, as does Gabriel when he shows up. And constantly throwing Bounty Hunters were possible.
Since i've had a version of this deck for so long, i've tried other things. Only those cards mentioned about have been pretty static since I started the deck. It's only been recently I tried to add in a straight flush componant, previously just sticking with the 4 of a kind build.
I've had versions of the deck that harrows both Hangin' Judges, I spent along time starting with the Experience MacPhearson, and using Confession and 4th Bowl (is it 4th? The reduce to 0 influence).
Since I can't really test how good the straight flush build is (not having many people to play with apart from a couple of mates i've roped into it... hardly expert players) I don't know if I should keep it in, but it does limit the card choices alot.
I used to run with Red Handed, which is a turn 1 game winner sometimes, but after that not great unless Coleman keeps dying. But I did once at Gencon have a first turn Red Handed, Fools Joker for Hangin' Judge, Katie Karl dead, before noon :p |

One of the tricks that I like to suggest for Hanging Judge decks is Crippled. It saves the judge from an untimely death and then keeps him from moving after wanted dudes later. He still kills them, he just doesn't go to their location if it isn't adjacent. _________________ Richard Carter

I don't like the idea of dead cards no matter how good they are. If the Hangin' Judge is already dead by the time I draw the card it's no use.
Since i've had so many versions of the deck, I've had one which tried to keep the Judge around for as long as possible and bring him back harrowed, and as soon as I came across a Sioux Brawler half the deck seemingly became dead weight and I lost. So now I just let the Judge do as much as he can before dying and move on.
Before I had the straight flush in I had a few cards that helped, but since had to cut for space specifically for the straight flush. This was because I kept getting in shootouts and finding myself with two pair as my best hand, unable to get that final card for a full house.
The deck hits fast, and can survive long term, if it can make the transition after the first couple of turns.
One card I specifically used was the Bullet that aces wanted dudes, throwing one of those on the Judge on the first turn can make it harder for people to attack him |
